2003
Create 2003
Fota House, Cork.

The first event of its kind in Ireland, ‘Create 2003’ was officially opened on September 26th by Mr Jeremy Irons and ran until October 5th. Featuring 74 pieces by 22 furniture designer makers, this was a true celebration of excellence in design. Exhibits ranged from small hand made items to larger one off pieces and as well as viewing the superb work, visitors had the opportunity to purchase some of the exhibits or commission their own unique piece of furniture. Over 3,000 people visited ‘Create 2003’ which was sponsored by the Crafts Council of Ireland & Coillte and supported by Fota House & GMIT Letterfrack – The Furniture College.

2004
Extracts from Create
National Craft Gallery, Kilkenny.

Featuring a selection of the smaller items first seen at Create 2003, ‘Extracts from Create’ opened at the National Craft Gallery in Kilkenny on February 9th and ran until March 25th. This exhibition provided another opportunity to view work first showcased in Cork and brought the work of the Create Network to a new audience in Kilkenny. Almost 6,000 visited ‘Extracts from Create’ which was organised and run in conjunction with the Crafts Council of Ireland.

Create 2005
Fota House, Cork.

Create 2005 will take place from Saturday October 1st to Sunday October 16th 2005 at Fota House Cork. The exhibition, which will showcase the very best in Irish contemporary design, will feature up to 30 makers in an exciting exhibition that will form the centerpiece of a wider programme of events.

Create 2005 is also taking place against the backdrop of Cork’s year as European Capital of Culture 2005 so the scene is set for what promises to be a wonderful celebration of the best of Irish design and craftsmanship.

Applications are now invited from Irish Furniture designer makers wishing to exhibit at the event. All applications will be independently assessed under a number of criteria however the organisers are keen to emphasis that all items selected for the show should adhere to the main objective of Create, which is “To exhibit innovative and distinctive work, which sets new standards in design and craftsmanship encouraging craftspeople to keep inventing and exploring while retaining their individuality”.
